When Google rolled out Google Plus, it was damn straight that Google will put all its effort to get as many people on board it can. Though you can always opt out of Google Plus when in browser but Google now has hit on the soft corner, Google Talk. This messenger service from Google has been a major part of having conversation with our buddies and Google is replacing this with Hangout App at least on Android devices to start with.

Being an early adopter in most of the things, I instantly updated my Google Talk and started using Hangouts. It was awkward and like anything new I was taking my time to adjust with all these new stuff. However one thing I instantly noticed is that there was no notification sent if I was not using the Hangout. This never happened on Google Talk. In fact it was so seamless that when I used to switch between my Laptop and My PC, I used to start the conversation where I left without even launching the application.

Now with Hangouts, the chat history is still available but you need to launch it to see it. This means the notifications aren’t the same as instant as it was in Google Talk App for the android.

Fiddling around with the settings, I found there is a new settings in the Google Account for Hangouts — SMS for Hangouts. Depending on your country and your operator, it is possible for Google to send out SMS notifications if you were idle.

Like you can see above that if Google and your Operator are not tied up together, you will not receive the SMS when idle. So till then ask your friend to give you a miss call !!!

Panasonic has launched a high-end Android Phone — P51 in India aiming to gain 8% market share in future. Though late in the party, the hardware specs look very decent compared to the phones which are regularly launched in India. The best part of this phone is that it comes with the latest Android OS version 4.2 or the Jelly bean.

P51 Hardware Specification:

A quick look at the hardware specs show that it runs a 1.2 GHz Quad Core Processor with a 5 inch screen and resolution of 1280 X 720. Panasonic has also managed t put in a 8 MP rear camera along with 1.3MP front camera which supports 720P of video recording. It has 2500 mAH battery power. It is priced at Rs 26,990/-

Apart from these specs, Panasonic came well prepared before launching the phone. They have also included a magnetic flip cover which will make sure the phone gets hold of less dust than usual and a capacitive stylus if you prefer a pen over typing or even love to draw.

And here is the biggest surprise, the phone supports dual SIM. If I am not wrong there are hardly any high end phone which actually supports dual SIM.

How does it compete with LG Nexus 4:

Google and LG announced Nexus 4 availability in India 3 days back. This very well coincided with the P51 launch and now the game will be interesting.

Looking at the hardware specs, P51 has an IPS LCD which is better compared to Nexus 4 capacitive screen. Even though the P 51′s inbuilt space is only 4 GB but you can extend to 32 GB which is double the space of Nexus 4 inbuilt phone memory which has no support for SD card. However LG is using better processor and GPU along with 2 GB of memory which is only 1 GB in P51.

Both the phones are closely priced and the only way for Panasonic to beat Nexus 4 will be performance. If the users get same or better kind of experience in P51, Panasonic will have their chance to get into the market and make their place.

We have asked for the review units and we hope to get them. If that happens, I will share my detailed review with you guys.

Finally after a very long wait, Google and LG has announced Nexus 4 for India which for many users will be an exciting news if they had been waiting for it and it had been expensive to import it from outside India.

It runs the latest version of Android and comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon™ S4 Pro processor, 3D graphics and gameplay and 2GB of RAM. The Phone comes with a 8MP camera, 1280 X 768 Display on a 4.7 inch screen. Its True HD IPS pus Display and protected against scratches as it uses the Corning Gorilla Glass 2. This version is only 16GB unlike the 32GB which comes in International version.

“LG Electronics is pleased to partner Google on the release of the Nexus 4 in India,” shared Mr. Soon Kwon, Managing Director, LG Electronics India. “We added the best of our talent to our strength, and the result is a feature- packed smartphone that packs superb hardware under a slim hood. With LG Nexus 4, consumers would be delighted by the perfectly balanced combination of style, function and power. The smartphone encourages consumers to explore a world of possibilities and also helps them balance between business and entertainment”

The phone is decently priced at Rs 26,000 which IMO is a great deal if one is looking for an Android Phone at this range. Also at IO 2013, Google did not announce any new Nexus Phone but it said they will be coming up with Google branded of Nexus 4 which will run Stock Android.

Now keeping in mind how much time it took for Nexus 4 to come to India and probably because LG wanted to, Google branded Nexus 4 might not even see the light of day in India. This is both from business strategy and the pas track records.

This will be available at selected LG exclusive brand shops, Multi brand outlets and specialty stores ( modern trade ) across India.

There is always something in the background of your favorite image that you never like. Be it the boring color or the guy with a weird face. So when it comes to removing them, most of us end up thinking about high-end tools like Photoshop or use our best to do it with tools like Paint!!!!

So here is an easy way to do it, Clipping Magic. It is an online tool which algorithmically removes the background image once you suggest the application about them.

How does it work ?

Like I said above its you who guides the application about the foreground and the background objects. So when you mark them the algorithm tries to find the color of the next pixel ( that’s what computers understand) and if its same then adds it to its list. So if a pixel color is marked as background, it is removed else it is kept.

Using the tool:

Once you upload the image, you get set of tools Add, Remove, Zoom, Drag and Erase Marking. You need to use these tools to mark the foreground and background part.

So now if your picture is complicated where you have a lot of objects which are close to each other, I will suggest you to zoom and find the biggest part of the background space. This way the algorithm will get more pixels to understand where you want to point them too. On the similar line, you need to also mark the objects which you want to keep. It’s possible that they may be of different colors unlike background. So, make sure you mark them correctly.

When you are using this tool, You get to see live preview of your action. This means if you are marking anything in correct, you can always use to the undo tool to correct it. Once your correction is complete, you can download it on your computer.

When it comes to Edges

Clipping Magic is still in Alpha Stage. It works for most of the cases but not be that great if you have faint borders and blur images. It’s because for the computer it becomes difficult to guess the color. Keeping this in mind you can use the erase bad marks tool to leave space and let algorithm decide what to do.

Also it remembers a list of images you have clipped recently which is limited to 5 in number. Since you cannot create an account, the images are stored based on combination of IP and Cookie.

Even though Windows 8 touch interface comes with a virtual keyboard it’s not as efficient as standard keyboard. If you have used alternative keyboard on your Android phone, you know features like prediction based typing or even different layouts are missing. In this post we have talked about TouchPal, a flexible, alternate and prediction based keyboard.

Features of TouchPal Keyboard:

Contextual Prediction: Windows 8 lags a big time when it comes to prediction. Windows Phone 8 has but nothing when it comes to Windows 8. After you start using Touchpal you will experience contextual prediction just like you get in Android. This not only saves a lot of time but also gives you better typing experience.

Slide to Type : If you feel typing is touch, TouchPal Keyboards come with their own technology, Touchpal Curve which many of you will be able to map to swipe to type. You can slide your fingers over the alphabets in continuous fashion to make a word and the predictor will pop-up with set of words you wanted to type. It is very easy to use but you have to get used to it.

Adjustable Keyboards:

Another very useful feature of Touchpal is resizable keyboard which comes in very hand when you want to use split keyboard. Not every hand is equal and using a full keyboard holding a tablet is not easy unless it’s very light. You can even push the keyboard on one side if you wish to type with one hand. So you can quickly resize or reposition the keyboard so your fingers can reach them while you are holding the tablet.

Other Features:

The keyboard comes with its own set of settings which allows you to :

Toggle Predictions, Keyboard Pop up and key press sound.

You can control the transparency of the keyboard which is useful when you are browsing a webpage or reading a long document. That way nothing gets hidden by the keyboard.

This is a full keyboard and hence you get access to use the Alt and the Ctrl keys. This makes copy, paste, scroll, etc easier.

You can backup dictionary. Useful when you keep adding new words.

Installation and Download

The application once downloaded can be installed like any other application. During installation you get to choose the language for which I will suggest you to choose only what is required unless you use them.

Windows 8 Native apps are designed to work full screen which gives better experience and more space for one to interact with it. However, switching between the apps, specially when you work with Desktop Apps and Native Apps together, this feature becomes one of its biggest drawback.

As an example, I am mostly a desktop user and desktop apps are my priority. So when using Windows 8 Apps, It just cuts me off from the rest. Some of you might argue that I can use the side docking feature.I agree, but then docking only gives me half the feel of the apps. They are good for apps which can be used as single column.

As a matter of fact, after I had used the touch based interface of Windows 8, I can understand why the apps were built like that. Switching between the apps is much easier using touch when compared to non-touch devices.

ModeMix:

This brilliant application by Stardocks brings in the Windows Control i.e. Full Scree, Close, Minimize to Windows 8 native apps. This in turn makes it usable on regular desktop. Not only this but the apps get their place in Taskbar and you can run multiple apps.

Features:

Once installed the application integrates natively in the OS without you worrying much about enabling or disabling anything.

You can set the size of the window for every app and it will always open in the same size, the next time you open the app.

You will be able to pin the application on the taskbar.

The best part of using this is that switching between the Windows 8 Apps can be done without moving your mouse to another corner.

How to get ModernMix

Sadly, the application is not free of cost. It will cost you 4.99$ with complete support and updates from Stardock. You can download ModernMix from here

We all love to keep our phone charged all the time and for this very reason most of us these days carry a power bank or charging unit with us. Now most of the charging units that are sold either are very big in size and when they go small the quality is not that amazing.

So when we heard about Powerrocks Thinnest Power Bank, Tarot we were interested to find how good it was and PR was nice to send us one. Not we are amazed with the size, truly thinnest, but it’s very portable and almost of the size of your credit card. The Powerbank is of 1500 mAH, good enough to charge your phone at least once.

Unboxing Video:

Watch Video

Design & Build Quality:

It stands 100% to the claim it makes about being the thinnest power bank. Not only its light weight it is exactly sized to a standard credit card. Technically speaking the size is 3.5” (length) x 2.1” (width) x 0.28” (height).

The build quality of the power bank is impressive too. I am not sure what is material used to build them but they aren’t cheap plastic or even cheap metal. You will feel its strong when you hold it or even when try to bend it. We received a silver unit of which the side edges are made up of white plastic and rest is silver which looks metal.

It has a USB port and micro USB port which is used to charge the powerbank itself. It comes with a USB cable of decent length and water-resistant branded velvet bank. Below is the unboxing video:

It works with most of the smartphones which have microUSB Port. In case of iPhone & iPad you will need to use the device’s USB adapter to connect with Tarot.

There are Four LED light which indicates how much power is available and show up only when you press the button. When one of the LED turn orange you can assume that 25% of the power is used.

User Experience:

Using it was very smooth. I can charge the phone while keeping both in my pants pocket and did not feel the weight at all. The size and thickness of the charger was definitely the key reason.

The best part of charging experience was that all you need is to plug-in your phone and it starts charging. You don’t have to turn it on or off. Some of the charging packs I have used has this criteria of turning them on which If I forget becomes a huge disappointment.

Also since the LED stay turned off all the time, it is more power efficient compared to those whose LEDs stay on all the time. Keeping in mind its only 1500 mAH this was a smart decision.

Now every power bank does not deliver the same charge as stated. Same is the case here and its only 80 to 90% of the said charging. However its good enough to keep your phone alive when it comes to emergency.

Value for Money:

The Powerocks Tarot is available immediately, priced at $34.99. I would say its scores high for value for money if you compare similar power range charging banks & keep in mind how portable it is. It can fit in your wallet or your pocket or even your purse. It starts charging as soon as you plug it in which makes sure you never forget to press a button.

You can buy it from Amazon or directly from their stores. So go and buy now!!

If you are kind of person who travel in a car lot many times, running out of your smart-phone battery or even your tablet must be a common case. Many of you also keep working on your tablet as you travel and transferring files between your phone and tablet is another common use case.

In this post I am going to review Y-Charge + Syncable from TYLT which are excellent accessories and fits well in the above mentioned scenarios. So what are they ?

Y-Charge: Its a premium quality Car charger which comes with 2 USB ports. It comes in two variants 2.1 Amp and 4.1 Amp which makes sure that your phone charges up faster than usual.

Syncable: Its a premium Sync Cable with micro-USB port at one end USB port on the other. It’s a flat ribbon cable which is tangle free making sure you will never have to worry about broken cable wires inside it.

In the video below I have packed in all information, my experience with the car charger along with in-car demo of how to use it.

Watch on YouTube

Design & Build Quality: (10/10)

If you have ever tried any TYLT product you know the standard they have for every product they make. The same is true here. The charger head is made up of strong material which feels like soft hard material making sure it doesn’t wear out when used for long. There are three connectors two on the side and one at the head which fits easily in any standard car charger point.

The charging head has two USB port which makes sure you can charge two smartphone together in no time. Only thing you need to carry is the USB cable which came with your phone.

The Syncable if designed as Flat Ribbon which makes sure they are compact when you want to keep it in your pocket or in the car. You can use it with your computer or any charger head which has a USB in. It comes in four vibrant colors, supports micro USB & Apple Devices.

Usability: (9/10)

There is no learning curve when it comes to use both of them. Just plugin the Y Charger, rotate in any angle and slide in your USB cable. As the syncable is flexible you don’t have worry about it getting stuck or obstructing anything.

I will suggest you buy this as combination as it makes sure that you have one USB cable always in your car. In case you already have an additional USB cable, don’t ever take this off your car because without it, you wont be able to charge your phone.

Value for Money: (9/10)

Even though you end up a bit more compared to competition, its worth the money. Premium design and quality, no tangled wire, portable. Best part it looks so beautiful that you will never hide it from your friends. Instead you will end up asking where did you get it.

Sony Vegas Pro is one of the best video editing tool if you are using Windows. Even then it does not come with a Background Noise Removal Program of its own which brings in major drawback unless you are using a powerful microphone. Now since not everyone can afford such costly microphone, in this post I will tell you how to use Audacity along with Sony Vegas Pro to remove noise.

Note: Sony Vegas Pro does come with a Audio FX called as Sound Restoration but it does not work as good compared to Audacity. Since Audacity is a free tool, I will suggest you to use it.

Video Demo

Watch on YouTube

Setting up Audacity:

First download Audacity from here and install it on your computer. Next launch Sony Vegas Pro and follow the steps below:

Go to Options and then preferences. Switch to Audio Tab.

Now here you can choose an external audio editor.

So browse and select audacity.exe.

Using Audacity in Sony Vegas Pro:

Drag and Drop the video in Sony Vegas Media Section. Then drop it to the timeline. Once Vegas Pro is done reading the file, select the audio timeline. Right click and look for an option which says “Open a Copy in Audio Editor”.

Once you do that, it will export audio part of the video into Audacity and launch it. The next windows you will interact with is Audacity.

Noise Removal Using Audacity:

Now that you have the file in Audacity, first figure which part of the audio can be used as Noise. Audacity will use that as sample to remove noise.

Select part of the audio file which has noise.

Go to Effect and then choose Noise Removal.

Hit the get Noise Profile button. It will disappear instantly as you do that.

Next select the complete audio file.

Now repeat the steps from 1 and 2 again and this time click on Preview to hear the audio without noise.

Once you are happy, click on Apply.

Once you are done with noise removal, export the audio file as WAV format. This can be done using menu in audacity File > Export As.

Adding the Filtered Audio back to Video in Sony Vegas Pro

Now drag and drop the audio which we exported in above step to Vegas. Next steps are crucial as we will remove the original audio of the video.

Right click on the Audio Select Group > Remove From.

This will unlink audio from the video.

Now right click on the audio track which is on the left and deleted it.

Next drag and drop the filtered audio.

Done this all you need is regroup and start editing you video.

IP Messenger is a chat messenger which works with other IP Messenger clients installed over the same network. As a matter of fact, its one of the most popular chat client in Offices. It even has a WPF version with better user interface. We covered it years back and never knew that IP messenger has made its way to Android. IP Messenger for Android is almost the same as its Windows Version but works on any mobile or tablet running Android. This means you don’t need to install on your PC to talk with somebody else on your office. So how does this becomes useful in Office ( Provided you are allowed to connect to Office Network)

You don’t have to be worried about system admins watching on your PC for installed software that are not recommended.

Since its on your phone, chances are less that somebody is going to check your phone for these kind of stuff.

As Android has a dedicated file manager, sending receiving files makes lot of sense here.

It can also communicate with IP messengers installed on Windows Client. So if you want to share a file keeping it secret, your friend done have to come to his desk to accept the download and then view it. He can do it on his Android phone on the move.

Now since IP messenger is open in a network anybody using the same default messenger can be seen. As we know that IP messenger Port number can changed, the android version also comes with setting that can change it. This is much more convenient than Windows Client. To change settings here, hit the menu bar and look for Port Options.

Here you can change it and tell your friends to use the same port. This way couple of friends who just want to talk to each other can stay hidden. Apart from this it allows to change your name, set network wide broadcast area and language.

Download IP messenger for Android here. Thanks @golchha21 for the tip.
